Naive Love

we loved
as if
love did not
matter

as if time
stood still
with us

as if
we would live
forever

as if
love
would
prevail

yet
we did not see
the future

did not predict
that the moment
would not last
forever

we loved
as if
love did not
matter

naively,
unknowingly…

It does.

  2. a rather sobering read...but i would say that is the tipping point between love deepening and realising it never was...

  3. Loved the way your poem flowed. I just have one take on it, I think it'd be better if you use another word instead of "forever" in the sixth stanza.

  10. Love always matters. We measure it for lack and abundance, weighing relationships in daily communion.

  17. The poem is wonderful and is truly how most beginnings go.If only it could stay so naive.

  18. I think most love reaches a 'cooling-off' period. But that's where you really get to know the other person and you both grow together into that deeper, more patient love that's better than the urgent rush of young love.

(Because, as you so wisely wrote: Love matters)

  24. Yes always! But never realise until too late *sigh* I am loving the shape of your words and the feel of despondency they generate, when reading. Love has a habit of doing that to me!
