The Widow

wind cracking the window pane,
alone inside, the widower
staring back, her reflection
darkened the night outside her window
howling gusts bring forth a shiver
a single light flickers,
that of her own
blazed, enlightened
day and night
she is frightened
the rage of which she rid of
dwindled down,
the embers exist
burning still the pain
what once there was,
still there to scold her
abandoned, abused
hands blood stained…

his spirit taunts her

  3. Shiver is right. Even the photo is malevolent! Rage dwindled down to embers. Wish they would finally become ash and float like peet dirt towards someone elses windowsill.

    Beautiful writing Kay!

  14. I read this one through serveral times. It brought me shivers and stuck inside my mind. Made me uncomfortable, too. You write so well. The mood is just so cold and dark in this one. I'll have to agree with Shadow though, she's better off without him. Well done, Kay.

  24. Hi Kay - you won my Alice cards. I am going to leave my email in your comments as I don't want to draw attention to it - I have a really creepy commenter as of yesterday. It's smsanford AT lmi DOT net.

  25. Kay--I want to thank you for all the wonderful comments you leave on my blog. I really appreciate them, and I feel terrible when I am unable to reciprocate. (Literally--since I am often crunched for time--I post a blog and leave; not exactly the healthiest habit.) I apologize for not doing the same for you, but I still wanted to let you know that I truly appreciate you taking time the time to examine my blog. You certainly have beautiful skills of your own, and I am glad to have you as a blogging friend.

  26. I would give anything if cancer had not taken the life of my wife when she was in her prime at age 42. But it happened.
Thankfully we had a wonderful relationship.
Her haunting is of the loving sort.
I am a better (and more loving) man because of the almost 20 years we shared.
